Ring Protector

When i started Amphibia and had launched a few products a friend mentioned that there was nothing on the market to protect rings and he had nearly lost his when swimming.  Not having a ring myself at that point it didnt mean much to me, until i nearly lost my ring whilst swimming on my honeymoon – suddenly his words made sense!

I thought this would be an easy product to create, however it took 1.5 years to bring the product to market and numerous re-designs.  The design I eventually finalised mimics a medallion style ring with a large head to cover diamonds etc.  The design also incorporates unique ‘flaps’ which grip the ring when it moves, meaning the Ring Protector secures the ring on your finger as well as protecting the ring from damage. Because of these 2 features the ring protector is useful for a wide range of sports from watersports and swimming to gym (barbells can scrape ring surface), team sports and many activities outside sport such as manual work, DIY and gardening http://www.amphibia-sport.com/product/amphibia-ring-protector/

Since i have launched the Ring protector no other Amphibia product has been so polarising! From people saying it is silly to people saying it is genius, i guess it depends on its relevance to you and whether you’ve had a ring issue in the past. The most common complaint i hear is “Why not just take you ring off” but if you think about it, no other item we own commands so much sentimentality, so it’s reasonable that we might not want to let it out of our sight. Taking it off just increases the chances of your ring being lost or stolen and since launching the product ive heard countless horror stories of people losing or damaging rings either by taking them off or wearing them without a ring protector.  The most popular use thus far has been watersports as cold wet hands contract which can leave rings looser than normal.  So

much so that the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) nominated it for their product of the year award. The ring is well tested in 2 meters ocean swell at 4 degrees Celsius – check out Lone Swimmer’s popular blog http://loneswimmer.com/2013/01/21/review-amphibia-sports-ring/ and is also worn by the current World Triathlon Champion Gwen Jorgensen who was recently married and nearly lost her ring in the water BEFORE she found the Amphibia sports ring, which she now calls her favourite racing accessory!
